The LANAP® Procedure in Greenwood Village, CO

(Laser Assisted New Attachment Procedure)

Basic Steps of the LANAP® Protocol

Dr. Adam weaver is a Greenwood Village periodontist who works with the Laser Assisted New Attachment Procedure (LANAP®) laser gum surgery in Greenwood Village, CO.  LANAP® does not rely on a blade or sutures to remove diseased tissue. Instead, a highly intelligent laser is used to selectively remove diseased tissue and bacteria from the area without harming the healthy tissue. This is how laser gum surgery can treat gum disease without causing excessive pain or bleeding.

LANAP® laser gum surgery is a relatively short and painless procedure. Diseased tissue can be removed from the gum line in just six short steps:

  • Measurement of pocket depth – The first step in laser gum surgery is to measure the depth of your periodontal pockets. This is done so that your Greenwood Village periodontist can determine how much loss of attachment has occurred.

  • Removal of bacteria – The next step in laser gum surgery is to remove the bacteria and diseased tissue from the area. For this, we use a laser that is not absorbed by root, bone, or healthy tissue. This is how laser gum surgery results in less pain and less bleeding.

  • Removal of the calculus – After the bacteria and diseased tissue are removed, we use ultrasonic scalers to remove calculus deposits from the surface of the teeth.

  • Formation of blood clot – Next, the laser makes its second pass over the gum line to stimulate bone and tissue regrowth. The heat from the laser also causes the blood to become sticky and form a tight seal around the tooth.

  • Recompression of tissue – We then recompress the tissue against the surface of the tooth without using stitches.

  • Check for trauma – The last and final step of laser gum surgery is to examine your teeth to ensure no significant trauma has been done.

The secret to the success of LANAP® laser gum surgery is the PerioLase®MVP-7™. This is a highly developed laser technology that can distinguish between healthy and diseased tissue. Dr. Weaver is a properly trained Greenwood Village periodontist who is certified to use this laser.
